eWON has introduced a new alert functionality of its Talk2M application. This multi-award-winning software provides a cloud-based secure communication tunnel between the user and the remote machine. Operators used Talk2M to respond to problems and access PLCs remotely. Now, the machine can talk directly to the operator, by sending an email or SMS via Talk2M. There is now communication in both directions between the machine and the user.

This new system of alerts provided via Talk2M improves the existing event notification system. Machines that are connected to a local network will be able to send alerts transparently to Talk2M, which will pass them on.

Alert and diagnostic functions are, of course, not new. All these functions were included in the CD router family, and it was even possible to send alert emails via the router. However, there were two problems.  Firstly, an SMS could only be sent via a modem that had SMS capability. Many eWON routers connected to the internet via the local network, and did not have a modem. Email alerts required a dedicated SMTP server. 

These functions will be installed as standard in both versions (Free + and Pro) of Talk2M. Sending emails is completely free of charge. However, when sending SMS, the user will need to pay, depending on the charges levied by the mobile operator. 




C P Electronics’ EBDSPIR-HB-PRM PIR (passive infrared) detector provides automatic control of lighting loads with optional manual control. This product has been specifically designed for the detection of movement in high bay lighting applications such as warehouses and factories. It can be used on incandescent, fluorescent and compact fluorescent lighting, and has the added benefit of being able to connect an external switch.

Two modes of operation are available. Presence detection is when movement is detected the load will automatically turn on. When the area is no longer occupied the load will automatically switch off after an adjustable time period. If an external switch is connected, this can override the lights off (after the detection time period has elapsed it will revert to automatic operation). An integral adjustable photocell allows the lights to be kept off if there is sufficient ambient light.


With absence detection the load is manually switched on using an external switch. When the area is no longer occupied the load will automatically switch off after the adjustable time period has elapsed. By pressing the switch again during occupancy it will override the lights off (after the detection time period has elapsed it will revert to automatic operation). In both modes of operation a short button press turns the load on whilst a long button press turns the load off.

An integral infra-red sensor in the unit allows the unit to be programmed using the optional DD-LCDHS-LR programming handset. This gives complete flexibility over many of the operating parameters. Without the handset, manual adjustments can be made to the sensitivity, lux and time settings using the controls on the rear of the sensor head.


Pro-face’s CameraViewer EX software is developed to display and record live video of industrial operations on a remote PC. The software remotely displays, records and plays back live video to a computer with CameraViewer EX.   The high quality video output ensures a crisp and clear image resolution from the remote PC or on a corresponding HMI connected to an automated control operation.  Ethernet connection makes it easy and affordable to monitor and service from multiple support locations.

The live video feed provides additional security into hard-to-reach or dangerous areas of an industrial operation.  For hazardous operational video monitoring, CameraViewer EX brings the image safely away from the hazard to the operator through a Pro-face HMI, keeping the workforce safe.  It is also possible to monitor the same image from a remote location and show equipment operators the exact procedures to operate the machine safely.

Video playback in conjunction with live control of the Pro-face HMI from a remote location yields a reduction in travel support costs and machine shutdown time.  From a remote location, the user can watch or record a video of disturbances in his operation and provide diagnostic servicing of the equipment.   

The additional cost of implementing streaming video into an industrial operation is minimal by using a Pro-face solution.  This translates into significant cost savings to any company that wishes to remotely access, control, and view live video.



eWON’s Plug'n Route provides machine builders, system integrators and automation engineers with remote access to Ethernet devices to enjoy faster and easier on-site configuration while eliminating the associated IT difficulties.

The Plug’n Route feature aims at simplifying the configuration steps to access Ethernet devices such as PLCs, HMIs, and IP cameras on a machine LAN network through Talk2M. There is no need to reconfigure the device to define the eWON router as a default gateway. 

The Plug'n Route allows all IP traffic to be conveyed and forwarded to its final destination on the remote machine LAN network, making eWON a transparent access to remote Ethernet devices.

eWON’s Free+ service of Talk2M is an Internet connectivity tool designed to address the growing need for broadband and wireless access in the automation world for remote maintenance and access to remote equipment.  The key added value of Talk2M is full integration of IT security standards by enabling Internet tunneling between the user and the remote machine without requiring any changes to IT network security settings at either end. This major breakthrough facilitates easy deployment while hiding the complexity of the IT network infrastructure.


On request or permanently, depending on the integrated modem of the eWON unit, a secure VPN connection to the Talk2M web server is established using a UDP or TCP HTTPS port, thereby passing through the firewall and proxy server. At the other end, the user establishes a secure VPN connection to the Talk2M web server. The Talk2M server acts as a relay to interconnect the two VPN tunnels. The information exchanged during the communication session is encrypted (128-bit SSL), and only authenticated users can connect to the eWON unit.  


This service also allows an easy and seamless upgrade to the ‘Pro’ version, with no local change in eWON configuration nor any disruption in eWON connections. A completely renewed PC client (eCatcher 3) interfaces both Free+ and Pro services.  Clearly, remote machines or installations worldwide are just one click away and at broadband speed.

The Free+ service replaces the old Talk2M Free, which met great success among machine builders and system integrators.  It complements the historical and pioneering Talk2M Free offering with several added-value features.



The Pro-face AGP3200A is a multi-port 3.8” dedicated operator interface touchscreen ideal for OEMs and end-users requiring a powerful, compact, yet flexible HMI.  It offers ultra fast application transfer, 10 times faster than conventional HMIs.
